The police here had tough time pacifying the relatives of a woman panchayat president from neighbouring Tiruvarur district who died after undergoing a medical procedure at a private nursing home here on Saturday. Melapanayur village panchayat president T. Tamilselvi (30) of Kamalapuram near Tiruvarur was admitted to the private nursing home here last Tuesday for undergoing a surgical procedure related to some neurological condition.

After the procedure late on Friday night her relatives realised that Tamilselvi did not recover and complained to the doctors present, who told them after inspection that she had died. Shocked at the “apathy” of the doctors, relatives of Tamilselvi gheraoed the nursing home premises and came to the street and blocked traffic demanding action against the “errant” doctors.

Thanjavur Town Deputy Superintendent of Police Tamilselvan and other police officials held talks, and pacified them to disperse, assuring necessary actions.
