Library won’t be used for weddings: Govt

July 03, 2012 03:08 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:05 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The State government on Monday submitted before the Madras High Court that henceforth no wedding or wedding reception would be organised at the auditorium of Anna Centenary Library at Kotturpuram here.

Its submission before the First Bench comprising Chief Justice M.Y.Eqbal and Justice T.S.Sivagnanam came when counsel for one of the petitioners, who had challenged the decision to shift the library to Nungambakkam here, cited a report in The Hindu on Monday on the library auditorium being let out for wedding receptions.

The court said that the dispute with regard to the conversion of the library was pending adjudication.

There was an interim direction to the government not to shift the library or withdraw any existing facilities.

The Bench noted that Government Pleader S.Venkatesh had not disputed the fact that the library building had been used for a wedding reception.
