Leaders of political parties on Saturday urged the State government to allot a new house to senior communist leader R. Nallakannu, who was asked to vacate his Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) flat in T.Nagar.

Mr. Nallakannu vacated the TNHB flat after the government decided to construct a new structure in its place. He is now staying in a rented house at K.K. Nagar.

“The house was allotted to him as a tribute to political leaders who uphold integrity in public life. He lived in the house for 12 years. The government should allot another house to him,” DMK president M.K. Stalin said in a statement.

Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) leader G.K. Vasan also called upon the State government to allot a house to Mr. Nallakannu and the family of Kakkan, who held the Home portfolio in Kamaraj’s Cabinet.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said the communist leader has had to pay higher rent after he shifted to a new house.

“He personified public life in the country and it is the duty of the government to allot him a house,” he said.
