Thousands of devotees witnessed the kumbabhishekam of the 13th century-built Thirumuganathaswamy temple at Thirumuruganpoondi near here on Friday. The temple was renovated recently at an outlay of Rs. 28 lakh.

C. Saravanabhavan, Executive Officer of the temple, told The Hindu that the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department had arranged 25 rooms for mentally challenged persons.

“Only condition for allotting the rooms free-of-cost is that the mentally challenged persons should be accompanied by a relative and they could stay for a maximum stretch of 48 days,” Mr. Saravanabhavan said.
