Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan on Thursday said the party would not contest the Vellore parliamentary poll.
Election in the constituency was cancelled in April after income tax personnel seized ₹11.48 crore, allegedly from an associate of DMK treasurer Duraimurugan, whose son Kathir Anand was a candidate.
In a statement, Mr. Haasan noted that the election was cancelled after money that was being readied for distribution to voters was seized and cases were registered. “Holding the election in the constituency without any progress or conclusion of those cases that were registered will further reduce the confidence of the people in the Election Commission of India,” he said.
The MNM was working towards effecting a change in government of the State, he added.
