A district-level “Kala Utsav” organised by the Education Department under Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan scheme provided an opportunity for students of government schools in the district to exhibit their skill in folk dance, handicrafts, and drama. Children from 15 schools participated in the events and gave performance in Poikkal Kuthirai,Karagattam, and conventional melam . Toys made of terracotta and clay in various shapes and sizes made by children were presented under the handicrafts events. S. Shanthi, Chief Educational Officer, said those selected in the district-level event, would participate in the State-level contest to be held in due course. J. Radhikarani Prasanna, Additional District Project Coordinator, and C. Panneerselvam, Education District Coordinator, spoke on the objectives of the “Kala Utsav” which aimed at promoting rural and folk arts.
