In a major announcement on the preventive healthcare front, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday announced the launch of AMMA Master Health Check-up scheme to benefit those who cannot afford such services in private hospitals.

Making a statement under Rule 110 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Ms. Jayalalithaa said private hospitals charge anywhere between Rs. 5000 and Rs. 12000 for a master check up, which all sections of the society cannot afford.

Therefore, as a pilot project, the AMMA Master Health Check-up would soon be launched at the Government general hospital in Chennai.

She said the check up would include blood tests, urine tests, sugar, thyroid and cholesterol screening, liver screening, chest x-ray, echo and USG abdomen etc.

For women, the AMMA Woman Master Health Check-up, which would include the above tests along with other procedures such as Pap smear and digital mammogram, would also be offered at the hospital.
