Hand-washing day observed in six schools

A Karur-based non-governmental organisation organised a global hand-washing day in six government schools in the district on Thursday.

The volunteers of LEAF Society- IKEA – ASIAN Fabrics, Karur, conducted demonstration in the schools on the method to be followed on hand washing. They outlined the importance of hand washing.

A total of 508 children took part in the demonstration held at Kaniyalampatty Government Higher Secondary School and 468 children in five other schools.

They were trained on safe hand washing by using soap. S.L. Sathiya Nesan, Director of LEAF Society, said safe hand washing could reduce 47 per cent of the water-borne diseases. Hence, the students should be trained on hand washing method in the childhood itself.
