Measures to extending relief to the people with disabilities, increasing the reservation quota for senior citizens, and providing lower berths for senior citizens are welcome measures proposed in Railway Budget. But it is not known why concession for senior citizens has not been extended in ordinary train fare. A minimum distance limit of 200 km may be fixed for ordinary passenger trains for allowing concession. Will the Railway Minister consider this?

Improve facilities

at post offices

Computerisation of post offices is a welcome move. But it should not affect the public indirectly. Sometimes we are unable to pay our premium amount, RD amount and even we are unable to take our deposited SB account amount due to power failures or network failure in the post offices. The post masters collects dues from customers for their fault. I request the postal officials to make necessary steps to provide proper infrastructure at all post offices.

Set up more

cloakrooms

Thousands of people visited Kumbakonam during Mahamaham. Most of the devotees suffered due to non-availability of cloakrooms. Even after the Mahamaham, devotees are visiting the place for holy dip in the tank. I request the municipal authority to set up cloakrooms for tourist near Mahamaham tank. Will the authorities do the needful?

Sensitise students

to corruption

On the advice of the Central Vigilance Commission, the UGC has asked the universities across the country to include topics on fighting corruption, ethics, vigilance, anti-corruption, and to whom and how complaints of corruption can be made as well as details of organisations that investigate such cases in the curriculum. While conducting vigilance awareness campaigns, every year the students should be issued the booklets containing the duties and responsibilities of various taluk/district and State-level officials.

Have a proper

post office

The State Bank Colony post office is neither located in the State Bank Colony nor in the State Bank building. This post office is situated on Medical College Road. It serves the residents of Easwari Nagar, Muth Tamil Nagar, Municipal Colony, Kanagasabai Nagar, Natarajapuram and so on. This post office is functioning under a staircase of a commercial building sandwiched between a bakery and a general stores. Will the postal authorities provide a suitable office, accommodation, to the staircase post office?

An elder’s plea

for financial aid

I am 67 with vision impairment. My request for financial assistance for persons with disability is pending with Thiruvidaimaruthur Thasildar for more than four years. I have no physical or financial strength to visit his office again and again. Will the Thiruvidaimaruthur Thasildar look into my case and be good enough to provide succour?

Hefty parking

fee at Tirupattur

Recently, I visited Tirupattur Sri Brahmapureeswarar temple and was shocked to find that they collected parking charge of Rs. 30 for car, Rs. 60 for van, and Rs. 100 for buses. People from many parts of Tamil Nadu and other states visit the temple . But parking charges are too high. Also in the shops, vendors fleece devotees for flowers and other puja items. They are rude with the devotees. The authorities should take action to check the menace.

Voters should

reject freebies

The model code of conduct is not only for political parties, but also for voters. Every voter should take a pledge that they would not accept cash or freebies. They should analyse completely the manifestos of parties and reject the freebies mentioned in it. Acceptance of freebies lower the dignity of voters. The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements to achieve higher turnout. It should extend all help to people with disabilities and senior citizens to exercise their franchise quickly. All voters should cast their vote and make Tamil Nadu a model State.

Asphalt SH 142

State Highway 142 (SH-142) connects Thuraiyur with Perambalur Road and this is the only route to connect Chennai from Nammakal and Karur districts. Many buses go from Thuraiyur to Perambalur and Nammakkal , Karur, Kulithalai, Musiri and Chennai. The road starting from Thuraiyur town has huge pits and sand accumulation. It’s a bumpy ride and a challenge for even expert drivers. I request the authorities concerned to asphalt this road and ensure safe journey for people.

Post offices

in a shambles

Since banks have recently reduced the interest rate on deposits, people, especially senior citizens, whose only source of income is interest income, started depositing their money in the post offices. But unfortunately the officials in the Post Offices face utmost difficulties in day-to-day operations. They don’t get the internet connectivity at the desired speed. Some post offices lack basic amenities and are located in remote corners making it difficult for the elderly to reach them. The Postal Department should streamline its system and provide seamless service.
