January 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:54 am IST - SIVAGANGA:

The district administration has announced the expansion of e-governance system introduced in the district last year.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, Collector T. Munusamy said the system, which was introduced in the first phase in Tirupuvanam block in February last year, was being expanded to Sivaganga block with effect from Wednesday.

Common Service Centres had been established at Primary Agriculture Cooperative Banks, town panchayat offices, municipal office in Sivaganga block, he said, and appealed to the public to make use of the system.

He said through the e-governance system, the public could get community certificate, income certificate, nativity certificate, first generation degree holder certificate, destitute widow certificate and other certificates issued by the revenue department easily.

Under the system, people did not have to visit the offices of Village Administrative Officer (VAO), Revenue Inspector and Tahsildar for getting various certificates, he said.

If one member of a family obtained a common access number (CAN) from the service centres by producing necessary documents, other members of the family could use the same CAN number for getting the certificates without producing necessary documents.

The CAN number would be valid for six months, the Collector added.
