A special ward to treat H1N1 patients has been revived at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital (GMKMCH) in the city on Sunday.

The 14-bed ward with special facilities and exclusive medical team attached to it is kept ready as a precautionary measure at the hospital.

The H1N1 is a highly infectious disease and the affected people have to be isolated from other patients undergoing treatment at the hospital. Though no incidents of H1N1 has been reported so far from Salem district, a team of trained doctors and para-medical staff have been kept ready, R. Ravichandran, Dean in-charge of the hospital, said.

The hospital at present has stocked about 12,000 Tamiflu tablets that are given to the H1N1 patients.
