A college student here was attacked by another student on the college premises on Wednesday after a girl student was harassed by a group of students.

Sources in the police said one of the girl students of the college, who was teased by a group of students of the same college, informed her relative and first year student of the college about the problem she had to face even as she was coming to the college. When the first year student warned one of the teasers, it led to a scuffle between them on the college premises around 11 a.m.

On coming to know about this incident, the teaser’s brother and his classmates, all third year students, picked up a heated argument with the first year student during the lunch break in which one Ranjit, a third year student was attacked and admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH) with bleeding injury.

Agitated over this, a section of the students raised slogans and attempted to stage a road roko near TVMCH, however, the police prevented the move.

Based on the complaint from the victim, the Palayamkottai police are investigating.
