The DMK on Tuesday announced N. Pugazhenthi as its candidate for the Vikravandi Assembly byelection.
Mr. Pugazhenthi is the treasurer of the party’s Villupuram-central district unit.
After his name was announced, he met party president M.K. Stalin at Arivalayam.
“My prospects in the constituency are bright since the entire Villupuram district and Vikravandi, in particular, received many welfare schemes during the DMK rule,” Mr. Pugazhenthi said after garlanding Anna statue in the constituency.
The DMK functionary said the party launched work even before the date was announced and covered the entire constituency.
“People, particularly the rural masses, are very upset with the ruling AIADMK as it failed to deliver any good schemes for the constituency,” Mr. Pugazhenthi added.
