Office-bearers of the district Congress unit, led by its president ‘Goodluck’ S. Rajendran pledged to work for the victory of the candidates of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its allies, the Congress and Manithaneya Makkal Kazhagam, in the district.

At a meeting convened by the Congress here on Saturday, the DMK and Congress leaders resolved to work together and muster support for the victory of the candidates by visiting every single household in the four Assembly constituencies, explaining the achievement of the previous DMK regime and the salient features of DMK’s election manifesto.

The DMK’s election manifesto would be the hero in this election, said Suba Tha Diwakaran, the party nominee, seeking election in Tiruvadanai Assembly constituency. M.H. Jawahirulla, leader of the Manithaneya Makkall Katchi (MMK), said that the front should create a new history by winning all the four seats in the district. Though he was a Muslim, he stood above caste and creed and served all sections of the society, he said. He had released his constituency development fund for improving facilities in Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram, Mangalanathaswamy Temple in Uthirakosamangai and Adi Jaganathaperumal Temple in Thirupullani.

‘Malaysia’ Pandian, nominated by the Congress to contest from Mudukulathur constituency, said that there could be good governance only if people elected good people. Thisaiveeran, DMK nominee in Paramakudi, said that party men should draw inspiration from leader M. Karunanidhi who had set out for poll campaign even at the age of 93 years.
