DMDK criticises AIADMK preparations ahead of by-poll

Says Jayalalithaa did not rush so many Ministers to cyclone-hit areas

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Vijayakant, has criticised the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for forming a 36-member election committee, including 26 State Ministers, for the ensuing by-election to Sankarankoil Assembly constituency even before the Election Commission of India has announced the poll schedule. Addressing a marriage function at Aruppukottai here on Sunday, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam founder complained that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had not rushed so many Ministers to the Cuddalore district that was hit by ‘Thane' cyclone.

“It was I who was the first to visit the areas affected by the cyclone. Even the Chief Minister came there many days after that,” he said.

The AIADMK has promised to give free mixers, grinders and fans, but there was no power in the State, he said. The Chief Minister who had announced that power situation would be set right by March 2012, has now said that it would be solved by June 2013. But she had not come out with the details of how it would be set right, he said.
