To showcase Tamil culture, scores of people wore dhotis during a Dhoti Day programme organised at Ettayapuram, the birthplace of C. Subramania Bharathi, Tamil Poet and freedom fighter, on Tuesday. The programme was organised by Kovilpatti Rotary Club in association with Bharathiyar Memorial Trust and Ettayapuram Traders’ Association in which 200 people took part.

All the participants clad in white dhotis, colourful shirts and towels, took out a rally. They appealed to the people to wear dhotis once a week to safeguard the interests of cotton weavers. Students of Tamil Baptist Primary School took part in the programme. The rally was flagged off by Rotarian Parameshwaran, president of the club.
