If teachers on protest fail to report to work by Monday, their present positions would be considered vacant and temporary teachers would be posted in their respective places, the Director of School Education warned on Sunday. He also said departmental action would be taken against them.

This means after January 28, striking teachers are unlikely to continue work in the school they are working and could join only if a vacancy arises. In a communication to all Chief Educational Officers, Director of School Education V.C. Rameswaramurugan urged them to advise the teachers to return to work before January 28.

“Those who join work on January 28 would be able to resume their duty in the same school without any departmental action. If not, their respective positions would be considered vacant and a tentative vacancy list would be prepared on Monday,” he said.

Based on vacancies and the qualification of new applicants for temporary teaching positions, they would be appointed on a consolidated pay of ₹10,000. If the striking teachers choose to return to work after January 28, the Chief Educational Officers shall fill up vacancies available in the revenue district, pending departmental action, it stated.

Teachers associated with Jactto-Geo have been on an indefinite strike since January 22, pressing various demands. As a result, “teaching in most of the State-run schools have been severely affected for want of sufficient teachers,” according to the Director of School Education.
