Burglars burn door lock and loot house

Burglars gained entry into a locked house in Ponniamman Nagar in Sathuvachari here by burning the lock portion of the door on Friday night and decamped with gold jewels weighing five sovereigns, silver jewels and articles, and Rs. 30,000 in cash.

According to police sources, the house owner Ramachandran (60), a lorry driver had gone out for duty while his wife Manjulabai (48) was admitted in a private hospital for treatment and his daughter Padmavathi (30) was staying with her mother in the hospital when the incident occurred. On information provided by neighbours, Padmavathi went to her house on Saturday morning only to find the house open, and the valuables and cash missing.

The culprits had strewn chilli powder in all the rooms in the house before escaping from there after committing the theft. The Sathuvachari police are investigating.
