Police have arrested a three-member burglar gang, which recently committed burglary at a driving school and decamped with cash of Rs. 85,000.
Acting on the orders of Superintendent of Police N.M. Mylvahanan, Kenikarai Inspector of Police Murugan arrested the gang members within a week after they broke open the door of Chola Driving School at Bharathi Nagar here and looted the cash kept in the table drawer.
Mr. Murugan said the gang members, identified as S. Asraf Ali (22) from Nehru Nagar and M. Haja Mohideen (20) and A. Beer Mohamed (22) from Valinokkam, also broke open a Sidha clinic located near the driving school and took away some tonic bottles.
The three accused who were drug addicts used the money to buy drugs and for lavish living. Efforts were on to recover the stolen money from them, he said. After consuming drugs, they would target shops and establishments in the nights and loot money, the police said.
The police zeroed in on the accused as the fingerprints already lifted by the police in some of the burglary cases matched with the prints lifted from the driving school and the Sidha clinic, the police said.
The accused were on Friday produced before a court which remanded them in judicial custody. Asraf Ali, who had been arrested in a case, was released on bail only recently, the police added.
