The Bharatiya Janata Party remains hopeful that actor Vijayakant’s Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, which is being wooed by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam , will come aboard its National Democratic Alliance despite certain recent developments in the DMK, according to BJP State president Pon Radhakrishnan.
“We think he [Mr.Vijaykant] will go with us despite that,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said in response to a question whether the DMDK would move towards the DMK following the suspension of south zone organising secretary and former Union Minister M.K.Alagiri from the DMK.
One reason for the suspension of Mr.Alagiri, son of DMK president and former Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi, is said to be his being critical of the party trying to rope in the DMDK. Without elaborating, Mr.Radhakrishnan said the BJP was also in talks with Pattali Makkal Katchi.
The BJP State president, however, described the visit of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko to the party office on Sunday as a courtesy visit. “We had been to their office twice and he returned the visit,” Mr.Radhakrishnan said, adding seat-sharing talks with MDMK were in progress.
