The Justice (Retd.) A. Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry has told Apollo Hospitals to submit all documents related to the treatment and death of Jayalalithaa.

In a letter dated January 5, the Commission told Apollo Hospitals to submit all relevant documents by January 12. This was after two deadlines to submit documents had expired, on January 2 and 5.

The hospital, where the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was admitted between September 22 and December 5, 2016, has told the commission that it needed more time since the documents were spread over 12 volumes.

However, after the hospital’s counsel asked for another two weeks’ time in response to summons issued on December 2, 2017, the commission said that the documents should be submitted by January 12.

“We have told them that we will take severe action in accordance with the regulations of the commission,” said a source from the commission.

Fresh summons

The commission requires the documents to issue a fresh set of summons to individuals who were associated with the CM’s treatment. However, the source admitted that there was not much that it could do.

“If they provide a convincing explanation, we will have to extend the deadline. Otherwise, they will be allowed to submit the documents in parts,” said the source.
