Applications invited for Juvenile Justice Board member posts

The Department of Social Defence has invited applications from eligible candidates and residents of the respective districts for appointment of social worker members in the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and Chairperson & Members of Child Welfare Committee constituted under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its amended Act 2006 and rules thereof.

The appointments would be made on honorarium basis, and one of the persons to be appointed shall be a woman.

According to a release from the Collector of Vellore district, the applicants should have been actively involved in health, education or welfare activities pertaining to children for at least seven years. The applicant should not be less than 35 years and should not have completed 65 years. The existing social worker members of the JJB, Chairperson and Members of the Child Welfare Committees can also apply for a second term.

The Chairperson and Members of the Committee/Board shall be eligible for appointment for a maximum of two terms only.

A person to be appointed as a Social Worker Member of the Board and Chairperson & Members in Child Welfare Committee should possess a bachelor’s degree of a recognised university. Preference shall be given to persons having a degree in any one of the social sciences such as criminology, psychology, sociology, social work, economics, home science, education, political science, and studies pertaining to women, rural development, law or medicine.

Separate applications may be submitted for Social Worker Member in the JJB and Chairperson and Members of Child Welfare Committee. Applications should be sent to the following address: Commissionerate of Social Defence, 300, Purasawalkam High Road, Kellys, Chennai-60010 on or before 15 days from the date of the release.

The prescribed qualification is a bachelor's degree from a recognised university
