Alleging that officials of Tamil Nadu Housing Board are threatening him to vacate the house, a 56-year-old man consumed poison here on Monday.

Manmadan was working as an office assistant at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital. He was married to Kasturi and has two daughters. He was residing at the housing board flat in Ayyan Thirumaligai on Yercaud Main Road.

Recently, he purchased a house at the housing board unit in Annathanapatti. Since he did not pay the monthly instalments, TNHB officials issued notice asking him to pay the principal amount with interest. Manmadan sent a petition to the Chief Minister’s Cell asking for waiving the interest amount.

Board officials asked him to vacate the house in Ayyan Thirumaligai and issued a notice. On Monday, he went to the TNHB office and met the officials who asked him to vacate the house. Alleging that officials were threatening him, he came out of the office and consumed the poison he had brought with him. He was immediately admitted to the GH where doctors said he is out of danger. The police are investigating.
