The AIADMK MPs on Monday met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and sought a permanent solution to the problems faced by Tamil Nadu fishermen.

Presenting a memorandum comprising the letters written by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to the Prime Minister, the delegation demanded Centre’s immediate intervention for release of Indian fishermen languishing in Sri Lankan jails.

The 49-member delegation led by Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai also sought a special package of Rs. 1,520 crore for enhancing deep fishing facilities in Tamil Nadu. The delegation also urged the Centre to retrieve Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka and file an additional affidavit in the Supreme Court. After the meeting, Mr. Thambidurai told reporters that Ms. Swaraj had assured the delegation that the issue would be taken up with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
