TNCC chief condemns killing of fisherman

Published - July 10, 2010 12:19 am IST - CHENNAI:

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V. Thangkabalu wants Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to condemn, in strong terms, the killing of a Tamil fisherman by the Sri Lankan Navy and the assault on three other fishermen in mid-sea on Wednesday night.

Condemning the attack, Mr. Thangkabalu, in a statement here on Friday, said attacks on Tamil fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy had become a recurring feature, despite such incidents being brought to Sri Lankan government's notice by the Centre.

He said during the recent visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to India, both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had told him that India could not tolerate attacks on Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
