BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has urged the party’s central leadership to “take a call” on whether the MDMK led by Vaiko should continue in the NDA in the light of the latter’s “crass anti-nationalism and covert secessionist pronouncements.”
In a statement released here on Tuesday, Dr. Swamy said he had spoken to BJP president Amit Shah and the party’s Tamil Nadu in-charge, Rajiv Pratap Rudy on this issue.
Pointing out that Mr. Vaiko had even recently appeared before a Tribunal (which had a sitting in Nilgiris) to argue that the five-year ban imposed by the Modi government on the LTTE should be lifted, Dr. Swamy said the MDMK leader had also been “abusive” in his speeches of the Prime Minister for engaging with Sri Lanka.
“Hence the MDMK is antithetical to the nationalist outlook of the NDA parties and thus should be sent a show-cause notice for the MDMK’s termination of membership,” the BJP leader said.
