In protest against the violent attack on a private school in Pochampalli in Krishnagiri district on Monday after a Plus-One student S. Suresh was run over by a school bus, over 11,000 matriculation schools in the State will remain shut on Friday, said K.R. Nandha Kumaar, State General Secretary, Tamil Nadu Nursery, Primary, Matriculation & Higher Secondary Schools' Association, here on Wednesday.

After staging a demonstration in front of the Anna Statue here condemning the attack by villagers and anti-social elements, Mr. Nandha Kumaar urged the government to order a CBI/CB-CID probe to bring the real culprits to book.

The association also demanded the enactment of a separate law to protect private matriculation schools.

He said almost all private matriculation schools except a few in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri district downed their shutters on Wednesday to protest the ransacking of the Pochampalli school and destruction of documents at the school office and the residence of the school correspondent.

In a petition addressed to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police, the association listed names of 13 persons it said were involved in ransacking the school. The association alleged that the violence was not spontaneous, but planned by anti-social elements. The attackers had a hidden agenda to damage the image of correspondent Syed.

Owing to the violence, property worth over Rs. 3 crore was damaged.

A.G. Babu, Superintendent of Police, Krishnagiri told The Hindu on Wednesday that quiet prevailed in Pochampalli, and that the police were taking allt efforts to bring the culprits to book.

G. Murthy, Chief Educational Officer, said that the department was taking efforts to reopen the school as early as possible to help the students to continue their studies.
