January 17, 2017 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST - CHENNAI:

AIADMK founder and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran was a close friend of DMK Chief M. Karunanidhi and their friendship continued despite political differences, DMK working president M.K. Stalin said here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion of MGR’s birth centenary, Mr. Stalin also recalled his memories of the former CM and extended his greetings to his followers.

"We cannot forget MGR chiding people who called Thalaivar (Mr. Karunanidhi) by name. MGR had a special affection for me. He enthused me when I was acting in the DMK's propaganda dramas," Mr. Stalin said in a statement.

He also pointed out that it was during the DMK regime that the MGR memorial was upgraded, and the state medical university and film city named after MGR.
