Alleging that the Rs.2.54 increase in the price of petrol was an onslaught on the people, who were already reeling under the impact of rise in the price of essential commodities, the CPI (M) on Sunday called upon its party units to organise protests across the State demanding withdrawal of the authority given to petroleum companies to decide the price.
In a statement here, its State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said the freedom given to the petroleum companies had led to increase in the price as many as six times in six months.
He said the protests should also highlight the need for abolishing online trading in essential commodities.
BJP condemns
BJP State secretary Pon. Radhakrishnan also condemned the increase in petrol price, saying on the one hand the DMK Government was unveiling various free schemes and on the other it was supporting the Congress Government responsible for the price spiral.
