Tamil Nadu State Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar has dismissed allegations that the Election Commission was biased.

Madurai Collector U Sahayam is functioning in a neutral manner, he told reporers at Nagercoil last evening after holding a meeting with District Collectors of Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tuticorin.

His comments come in the wake of Union Minister M K Alagiri criticising the Collector alleging that he had said that it was natural for people to expect a change during the elections. The Collector has refuted the allegation.

On whether all polling booths in the State were sensitive as reportedly stated by the DGP, the CEO said “The DGP has not said all polling booths are sensitive. He has said the polling booths are critical.” He also said they had referred the complaint about “smuggling” of cash in police vehicles to the court.

“We will confiscate money if they are transported illegally without documents,” he added.
