Launching a drive against use of banned plastic materials, the municipal administration on Friday, seized 750 kg of plastic carry bags and cups after raiding more than 100 commercial establishments and eateries in the municipality.

Municipal Commissioner P.M.N. Mujibur Rahman said that the municipality has banned sale and use of all plastic materials below 40 microns, which could not be recycled, but found them in use in commercial establishment, including super-markets and eateries. “From few wholesale agents alone, we have seized about 300 kg of plastic carry bags and plastic cups,” he said. Some of the shops were found selling plastic materials, claiming they were above 40 microns, but when weighed, they found to be below 40 microns, he said.
