Lorry operators staged a dharna near the toll plaza at Vijayamangalam along Salem-Coimbatore National Highway on Monday highlighting their demands.

As many as 58 lorry owners were arrested when they attempted to lay siege to the toll plaza at Vijayamangalam along Salem-Cochin National Highway on Monday morning. On the 5th day of the nation-wide strike call by All India Motor Transport Congress, the protestors led by Perundurai Lorry Owners Association K.P. Ramasamy raised slogans demanding abolition of toll collection, withdraw the system of tax deduction at source, and doing away with the compusion to instal speed monitors.

The protest lasted 15 minutes. They were all released later in the day, police sources said.
