To instil confidence in the minds of the tourists, especially among women, and to check all sorts of unlawful activities during this season, which is expected to start within two weeks, the district administration has installed 50 surveillance cameras at various parts of Courtallam.
Collector M. Karunakaran inaugurated the control rooms at five places in Courtallam on Saturday in the presence of V. Vikraman, Superintendent of Police.
Consumption of liquor in open places by people who create trouble to the public under the influence of alcohol, and collection of exorbitant parking fee are some of the problems tourists face in Courtallam every year. When the Madras High Court intervened last year following a petition filed by an advocate, the district administration is taking a range of measures to ensure a tourist-friendly atmosphere in Courtallam.
The cameras have been installed at Main Falls car parking area, Main Falls parking fee collection point, Car Street parking area, Five Falls parking fee collection point, Courtallam bus stand, near Sri Kutraalanathar Temple, Vishwanath Rao Park, Tiger Falls parking area, Tiger Falls parking fee collection point, Old Falls parking area, Old Falls parking fee collection point and other important areas.
The control rooms have been established at Five Falls, Main Falls, Courtallam police station, Old Courtallam and Tiger Falls areas, where the police personnel will be posted round the clock during this season.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the facility, Dr. Karunakaran said the district administration would take all-out efforts to ensure maintenance of law and order this year.
“Since the Court has banned the use of plastic products in Courtallam, soaps and detergents in the waterfalls and collection of exorbitant parking fee, we’ll enforce it with renewed vigour. Violation, if any, will be viewed seriously,” Dr. Karunakaran said.
