Jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA Raj Ballabh Yadav, accused of raping a minor girl in Nawada district of Bihar in 2016, was sentenced to life term on Friday by a special court in Patna.

The special MP & MLA Court-cum-Additional District and Sessions (IX) court judge Parshuram Singh Yadav also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the MLA from Nawada constituency.

Two other convicts, Sulekha Devi and Radha Devi, too were sentenced to life imprisonment, while three others were awarded 10 years in jail.

The court had convicted them on December 15 under Section 376 of IPC, relevant Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual OffencesAct 2012 and Section 120(B) of the IPC.

The 15-year-old girl was raped at the residence of the MLA at English-Pathra village in Nawada on February 6, 2016.

An FIR was lodged against him on February 9 and he was sent to jail after he surrendered before a local court in Nalanda. He was granted bail by the Patna High Court, but the Supreme Court later cancelled it.

He was subsequently suspended from the RJD.
