The Trinamool leadership on Saturday took exception to Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling West Bengal Governor K.N. Tripathi and not Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for a briefing on Cyclone Fani, describing it as an attack on the “federal structure”.

The Prime Minister tweeted reiterating the Centre’s readiness to provide all help needed to cope with the cyclone. “Spoke to Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi Ji, Governor of West Bengal, on the situation due to Cyclone Fani. Reiterated the Centre’s readiness to provide all help needed to cope with the cyclone,” read the tweet.

Terming the move “unfortunate”, Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee said, “By calling the Governor he has acted as leader of the BJP and not as a Prime Minister.”

The TMC leadership pointed out that the Prime Minister spoke to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
