The State capital was on Friday gripped by the alleged suicide of a young couple whose blood-soaked bodies were found in the parking lot of a housing complex in a posh area.

According to the police, it appears the two, identified as Ojas Tiwari (22) and Kajal Pandey (20), first used a blade to slit their wrists and then jumped to their death from the terrace of the five-storey Suraj Deep complex on Jopling Road.

According to initial accounts, the two youths were in a romantic relationship, but their families were opposed to their marriage.

Self-inflicted wounds

Lucknow Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar said as per the doctors of the forensic laboratory, the bodies had “self-inflicted” wounds and there were no signs of struggle.

Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. The two knew each other and were familiar with the place, that's why they came here at night," Mr. Kumar said.

The police team found bloodstains, a blade allegedly used by the couple, a mobile phone and a broken SIM on the terrace of the complex. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

A handwritten note, addressed to Ojas by Kajal, was found from his house. In the note, Kajal had expressed her anxiety that their relationship may not be acceptable to her parents and proposed more than once that they should commit suicide. “Nobody is supporting us..." the note allegedly written by her stated.

There are speculations that the two had secretly got married in a court a few days ago but that could not be officially confirmed. A shocked Anand Tiwari, Ojas’ father, said his son, who was studying films, was focused on his career and even had one of his films nominated for an award.

“At 6.30 p.m. my son left for the gym. Some time later, the girl's family came to our house asking for him as they were unable to reach their daughter," said Mr. Tiwari.

On Thursday evening, Kajal’s family lodged a complaint at the Qaiserbagh police station against Ojas, accusing him of eloping with her. His family also lodged a missing complaint.
