The Kashmir Valley has been under a shutdown for the last three months. While landline and postpaid mobile phone services have been restored across the valley, all internet services continue to remain suspended since 5 August. Most of the top level and second rung separatist leaders have been taken into preventive custody , while mainstream politicians including two former Chief Ministers — Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti — have been either detained or placed under house arrest. Meanwhile, the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir has been bifurcated into Union Territories. A Delhi-based Kashmiri family speaks on what they saw in the Valley.
