Two-day blockade in Manipur

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:29 am IST - IMPHAL

: No vehicle plied along the Imphal-Tiddim road passing through three districts in Manipur on Wednesday as a result of the 48-hour road blockade called by the villagers of Oinam in Bishnupur district from 5 a.m. This is in protest against the government move to acquire a lush field which has been the grazing ground for cattle for generations.

Three women sustained injuries when police fired tear gas canisters and mock bombs to disperse the villagers who blocked the road by burning old tyres and logs. Seven others were taken into custody.
