A group of Kanwariyas on Monday allegedly set a truck on fire in the Shahjahanpur district after they suspected that the vehicle was carrying prohibited meat.

According to the police, early on Monday, a truck laden with animal parts overturned near a Kanwad Mela in the Kalaan area of Shahjahanpur on the border with Badaun.

Irked by the stench coming from the truck, the Kanwariyas, who were passing by, allegedly set the vehicle on fire.

While the official Twitter handle of the Shahjahanpur Police said the truck was set on fire by Kanwariyas, Indrajeet Singh Bhadauria, Station House Officer of Kalaan blamed “anti-social elements” among the yatris for the incident.
