Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Paul was embroiled in a fresh controversy here on Monday after a video, telecast by local televisions channels, showed him apparently threatening to “shoot down” political opponents and “unleash his boys to rape” their family members. “If a CPI(M) man dares to touch anybody, Tapas Paul will not spare him. I will take out my gun and shoot him. I always carry a gun… I will destroy his entire clan…,” he is heard telling a group of party workers in Choumaha village in his constituency.

“I warn my opponents… beware… if anything happens to my mothers or sisters, my party workers, I will not spare them… I will ask my boys to go there. They will rape them…,” the MP says amidst applause.

Hours after his comments were telecast, Mr. Paul clarified that he did not say rape. “I said we will raid, but because there was so much noise, people thought I said rape,” the actor-turned-politician said.
