24 students walk away with prizes

Twenty-four young prodigies-in-the-making walked away with prizes in The Hindu in School Chess Competition 2019, organised here for the third year recently. The inter-school event was presented by National Insurance Company and ‘powered’ by Thyrocare.

In the under-15 (boys) category, Subhabrata Roy got the first prize, Aadrito Datta the second and Mouhurtika Ray the third prize. In the under-15 (girls) category, the first prize went to Sudipta Haldar, the second prize to Debarpita Ghosh and the third prize to Srijita S.

In the under-13 (boys) category, Anish Rooj got the first prize while Soumalya Mondal came second and Ujjan Sarkar came third. In the under-13 (girls) category, the first prize went to Vedika Agarwal, the second prize to Juhi Parekh and the third prize to Shreya Shree Bansal.

In the under-11 (boys) category, the first prize went to Alekhya Mukhopadhyay, the second prize to Aayush Bhattacharjee and the third prize to Sankalan Saha. In the under-11 (girls) category, Mrittika Mallick got the first prize, Aarshiya Biswas the second prize and Akansha Dey the third prize.

Archisman Patra and Debapriya Manna won the first prizes for the under-9 category while Bibhangshu Mondaly and Saparya Ghosh won the second prizes, and Shreeyash Kejriwal and Adrija Sil took the third prizes in the two gender categories respectively.

The event was organised under the aegis of Bengal Chess Association. Atanu Lahiri, International Chess Master, Joint Secretary of All India Chess Federation and Secretary of the Bengal Chess Association, addressed the gathering.

Goutam Srivastav, Assistant Manager, NIC, spoke of the National Insurance Company’s consistent efforts to support young minds in their pursuits.

The National High School for Boys, Hazra Road, was the venue partner.
