Sushil Modi’s wife sues Minister

June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Patna:

Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi’s wife on Monday fled a defamation complaint against State Health Minister Ramdhani Singh who had alleged that she used fake degree certificates to get a job in a government school.

Mr. Modi had earlier sought apology from the Minister, warning him that his wife would otherwise file a complaint in court.

Ms. Jessie George, wife of Sushil Modi, filed the complaint under IPC Section 499 (defamation) in the court of Patna Chief Judicial Magistrate Bharat Singh. The court asked the complainant to be present in court on Tuesday. Ms. George has produced all relevant educational papers and degree certificates to prove that they are genuine.

Earlier, Mr. Modi had raised the issue of illegal appointment of the Minister’s daughter as a librarian (grade III) in Patna’s Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. Under fire, she resigned the next day.

The Health Minister is on the Board of Governors of the institute.

An apparently peeved Minister later levelled the allegation against Mr. Modi’s wife. He said he would produce all the relevant papers soon.

The Minister neither produced the papers nor did he apologise to Mr. Modi as demanded by the BJP leader.

After working in a Central school for eight years, Ms. George became a lecturer in Patna University in 2003 and since April 2011 she has been working as principal in-charge of Women’s Training College under Patna University.
