October 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Phagwara:

Shiv Sena on Sunday burnt an effigy of Engineer Rasheed, an Independent MLA from Langate in Jammu and Kashmir, in protest against the ‘beef party’ hosted by him in Srinagar and hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

The protestors, led by Sena’s Phagwara unit president Manoj Sharma, also demanded that his membership of Assembly be revoked and legal action taken against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for hurting the religious sentiments of a community.

They demanded law against cow slaughter and strict ban on beef.

Protesters assembled at local Hanumangarhi, took out a procession, held demonstration and converged at the National Highway 1 where they burnt Mr Rasheed’s effigy, the police said, adding they also raised slogans against J&K government. -- PTI
