All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house arrest; JKLF chief Yasin Malik detained.

The government on Monday disallowed separatists’ meet in Srinagar where they were planning to chart counter measures to the ongoing National Investigative Agency raids being carried out in Jammu and Kashmir.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Sunday evening. JKLF chief Yasin Malik was detained on Monday.

The meeting was scheduled at the residence of Tehree-e-Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani’s residence situated in Hyderpora.

The meeting, according to the Hurriyat sources, was called to discuss the “future strategy” against ‘NIA raids’. The NIA raided 27 premises of separatists and their supporters in J&K in the past two days. Close aides of Mr. Geelani, Mr. Mirwaiz and Mr. Malik were also questioned by the NIA sleuths.

In a joint statement, the three leaders described the raids as an “attempt to keep up the farce of normalcy through repression.” “Such a move is to intimidate and harass leaders. It’s not been able to politically defeat the people’s struggle for freedom in Jammu and Kashmir,” they said.

After brazen admissions of being at war with unarmed civilian population of Kashmir, they said, “It comes as no surprise that this government can stoop to any level to intimidate activists and leaders and traders.”
