State police have put stringent security measures in place to maintain peace in Tripura as it celebrates Durga Puja across 2,500 pandals.
“We have taken adequate measures to make the Puja celebrations peaceful. Besides normal policing, we have deployed around 1,200 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans only in the capital city and its outskirts,” Inspector General, Police Control, Nepal Das today told PTI.
He said security was beefed up across the State and all big pandals would be brought under coverage of CCTV camera. Twenty watch towers were built in the capital city and 25 drop gates set up for checking of vehicles entering Agartala.
Besides, thousands of police assistance booths were set up throughout the State, IG Das said.
Patrolling by para-military forces has already started in the hilly and remote areas while the BSF was alerted to augment itself along the 856-km long India-Bangladesh border, especially where the barbed wire fencing was yet to be installed.
Cadres of Civil Defence and NCC were also engaged in Puja duties and strict vigil was being maintained on the Assam-Agartala National Highway so that vehicle could ply hassle-free even at midnight.
Das said State police also held meetings in different phases with the executives of the Puja committees for peaceful festival. - PTI
