The Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday demanded an immediate withdrawal of the newly released chapters of the Class XII history book of the Punjab School Education Board, alleging that it contains distorted history related to the Sikh faith and Sikh gurus.
Former Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema said the new chapters, which had been released online, have numerous mistakes and factual errors.
“An attempt has been made to distort historical facts pertaining to Sikh gurus and objectionable observations about Sikh dharmic granths (religious books),” alleged Mr. Cheema, adding that Education Minister O.P. Soni should be sacked from the Cabinet and PSEB Chairman Manohar Kant Kalohia removed from his post.
Mr. Cheema said the Sikh panth would never allow the Congress government to play with the history of Sikhism as well as that of the State. “If the chapters are not withdrawn immediately the Akali Dal would launch an agitation on this issue,” he said.
‘Wrong facts’
“It seems the Congress government wants to deprive the younger generations of their history and culture by putting misleading and wrong facts about Guru Sahibans and Sikh religion in their history books,” he said, adding that there are numerous wrong facts in the third and fifth chapters of the modified history book.
