The Bombay High Court on Wednesday expressed concern over delay in the murder probe of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar.
The activist was shot dead in Pune in August 2013 allegedly by two motorcycle-bound youths.
The case was handed over to the CBI more than a year ago, but the central agency has not submitted any probe report so far.
Moreover, there is lack of coordination among the seven officers recently appointed by the Maharashtra government to assist the probe agency, as they were from different locations of the State, advocate Abhay Nevagi, representing the Dabolkar family, told The Hindu .
A division bench of Justices Ranjit More and Rajesh Ketkar said it was “unfortunate” that the officers appointed to assist CBI were stationed in different places like Nagpur and Yavatmal, causing the probe to delay.
It asked the State why officers were not appointed from Pune itself.
The court directed the State to file a reply giving reasons for the scattered appointments and the CBI to submit a status report within a week.
