The Punjab Assembly has issued notice to Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Former rebel AAP leader and MLA from Bholath, for disqualification under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution.

An official spokesperson of the Assembly on Monday said that petitions from Harsimran Singh, a resident of village Metla in Bholath, and Harpal Singh Cheema, the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, have made references to the Speaker of the House for Mr. Khaira’s disqualification.

“Mr. Khaira has been given 15 days to file his reply as to why action under the provisions of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India should not be initiated against him,” said the spokesperson.

The spokesperson added that in case of failure to file reply within the stipulated time, it will be presumed that the Bholath MLA has nothing to say in this regard.

Mr. Khaira had resigned from the party on January 6, but did not resign as legislator. Later, he floated a new political outfit..

Dig at Kejriwal

Separately, Mr. Khaira took a dig at Arvind Kejriwal’s visit to Barnala in Punjab on Sunday, saying that his failure to refer to issues pertaining to Punjab such as river-water sharing, the drug menace, unemployment and farmer suicides only reflected the AAP leader’s political bankruptcy.

Mr. Khaira also accused Mr. Kejriwal of being “greedy” for posts.

“The real greedy man for posts is Kejriwal who is having three positions - one of Chief Minister, second AAP supremo and third is chairman of party’s political affairs committee,” he said.
