Around 3,820 quintals of pulses were seized during raids by administration on eight godowns of traders in Berhampur of Odisha on Monday.
These raids were part of continuing efforts of the government to stop hoarding of pulses by traders to check price rise. According to Berhampur tethsildar, Rashmi Ranjan Nayak, who led the raid by a team of officials of administration and civil supplies department, these eight godowns were owned by three traders of Berhampur. The godowns were located at Raja Street, Martha Street and Desibehera Street.
These storehouses were sealed up and the stock of pulses seized. “The pulses stock was seized as the traders had stocked up pulses much more than the permissible limit. Despite instruction these traders were also not providing regular information regarding their pulses stocked with them,” said the tehsildar.
