A day after former Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, claimed that former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid him Rs.15 lakh in 2010 for arresting separatist leader Masarat Alam, the National Conference on Wednesday threatened to drag him to court for “malicious propaganda” and called him a stooge of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
The new controversy surfaced after a local news website quoted Mr. Bukhari, one of the founding members of the J&K police’s Special Operations Group, as saying that Mr. Abdullah had after Mr. Alam’s arrest asked him “why he [Bukhari] didn’t bump off Masarat” and that they got a Rs.15 lakh-reward for the arrest. The NC denied both the allegations on Wednesday.
